It is, perhaps, unusual for experienced educators teaching in public institutions such as high schools and colleges to think about what they do all day as engaging he marketplace, but that is exactly what happens in the physical classroom. Unfortunately, the budgetary funds required to finance the salaries of public school teachers so that they can continue to engage the education market in the traditional setting are running a little thin now and there doesn’t seem to be any resource but to confront the conditions and seeking online education employment. There is a mysterious resistance on the part of my public teachers to investigate distance education technology and how it can benefit them now that they have lost their jobs. Additionally, the traditional adjunct faculty members currently teaching on physical campuses are making so little for each class of college students that they instruct, and have so few college classrooms available to teach in because it is necessary to actually have another physical campus within driving distance, that they can’t claim to live a sustainable lifestyle. Sad as these two sets of circumstances are for the educators themselves and those dependent on them, it is even sadder that the graduate school experience did not teach the educators how to take care of themselves when and if the public education funds became less easy to access in a traditional, physical academy setting one day.
Today’s college and university students are pursuing an online masters degree psychology, a criminal justice associate degree online and an online bachelor of nursing degree from their personal computers. They access the online bachelor degree programs and online master’s degree programs by logging onto the Internet from their homes or offices. The academic administrators are busily adopting distance education technology because it is less expensive to build out and maintain than the physical plant knows as the college or university campus. The very interesting thing about this availability of online college degree programs is that each and every online college and university class requires a qualified online adjunct instructor to teach the students in it. This requirement more or less mandates a large pool of online college instructor ready to be assigned to multiple online college courses.
Of course, in order to benefit from online teaching an academic must first find the appropriate place on a school’s website to submit an application for online faculty positions. Every post-secondary academic institution has a website today, so it is easy to locate the link on the school’s website that provides entrance into the faculty application section. This section is designed to allow easy submission of an application for online education employment with one or more of the online college degree programs provided by the college or university or for-profit college. The more applications that are made on a daily basis the grater the chances of developing a full time online teach schedule. In this sense, the market for higher education insofar as it impacts teachers is being driven by the speed at which administrators can implement online degree programs. The ability of an online instructor to reclaim a decent livelihood is governed by the speed at which the online adjunct can learn to use a personal computer to confront and navigate the education market. It is for these reasons that online education employment represents market condition to a significant degree.
